The theme of the short story “A very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez can be interpreted in many ways. It’s hard to find the right explanation for the meaning of the story and it leaves the reader with the feeling of uncertainty and unresolved facts.
The symbol of the spirituality is an angel, a holy and blessed creature, which came to the poor family to heal the sick child. But people are fools enough to ignore and refuse the miracle; instead they abuse and make money on him. On the other hand, I think the angel could be going somewhere else, but dreadful weather conditions bring him to the family that doesn’t deserve him. Pelayo and Elisenda give him place to stay, water, and he is so grateful that cures their son. In the end of the story the angel believes that his mission is done and leaves the village and the family.
The author brings the reader in magic world and at the same time to the world of cruelty and unintelligence. The inhabitants of that village live in half-reality and half-tale. They seem to be not surprised by spider woman walking around, or crabs falling down from the sky. This kind of ignorance reminds me that people are blind.
The story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" is an important story because, like all fine works of literature, it points out the need for a better world, one in which people are, at long last, intelligent, compassionate, and deeply spiritual.

"All Summer In A Day" by Ray Bradbury
The story “All Summer In A Day” by Ray Bradbury shows us how mean and envious people can be. A little girl, who moved from sunny Earth with her parents to the rainy Venus, becomes an outcast among her peers. She is not like other kids who don’t know what is like to live under the sun all the time. She remembers the sun very clearly and she is hoping to return to the Earth one day. Margot is different from other kids in many ways: she does not play much with other children, she doesn’t like to take shower because of disgusting feeling to get wet, and she even writes the poem about the sun. Kids feel that and get jealous and angry. I believe children can’t hide the emotions such as jealousy, anger or dislike. They release them freely and do not think about consequences. In this story they lock Margot in the closet and run to play in the warm fresh air until the hour of sun is up.
Children become adults and they learn how to behave appropriately in society; however, feelings can’t go away, they follow us everywhere we go. I guess the author shows us a good example that people will always have negative feelings to each other no matter how old they are.
